Profile

I have been working in the Telecoms industry for just over 22 years, and 18 years ago I came to Hungerford to work in a Telecoms job that was based in Newbury. I am a father of 4 beautiful children, 2 girls & 2 boys.

When I first drove up through the high street and later walked around the common, I fell madly in love with the town. The people were kind and welcoming and I vowed to live here forever.

Unfortunately, 2 years later my job took me away to Manchester where I lived for 9 years. I was so desperate to move back throughout this time. So, 7 years ago, we decided as a family that we would just give up our current jobs in Manchester and move back into Hungerford.
For the past 5 years I have been supporting Hungerford‘s Youth Club and through their open days met Cllr Keith Knight and Cllr Helen Simpson who were also passionate about our beautiful town. This made me think about what I could bring to the town. It was at this point I agreed to join Hungerford Town Council (HTC).
Although initially a bit daunted, I found everyone to be very open minded and welcoming. I was also very surprised to understand what the Town Council actually does. I had no idea HTC looked after so many different parts of the town. HTC is so welcoming of new businesses, encouraging new shops, restaurants and ensuring the community is maintained and grown. Hungerford is rich in clubs and other volunteer groups. HTC support these many community groups. I was partly led to believe by social media that this wasn’t the case. I couldn’t have been more wrong.

My goal by joining the council was to ensure the town grows and benefits from new homes, businesses and services. I’m passionate about supporting and encouraging the youth of the town. Positive mentors are essential in assisting them into making good choices, helping them into further education, apprenticeships and jobs. I also want to see that all the voluntary organisations and unsung heroes of the town are encouraged and assisted in the various good works they carry out.
I would encourage all like-minded residents to join Hungerford Town Council. I’ve already learnt so much about the town and its huge number of organisations, who collectively make Hungerford so community focused and supported. I look forward to the future of this beautiful town. I’ve made many new contacts and friends in the process.
